It is also working on its Local Nature Recovery Strategy, which forms part of the overall Climate Action and Adaptation Plan – West Sussex County Council ;

Awaiting outcomes of new Government’s review of road and transport schemes funding following its cancellation of the A27 Arundel by-pass project, noting a number of road, bus and active travel schemes in West Sussex require Government grant to be delivered.

WSCC is compiling its response to the new Government’s proposed changes to the planning system. The potential impact on WSCC’s transport and education planning functions given the scale of proposed uplift in housing targets and other changes could be profound (e.g. increased development targets but little info on necessary accompanying infrastructure delivery);

Second stage consultation on the A259 Chichester – Bognor corridor improvements is planned to launch on Tuesday 24th September and will run for seven weeks until Monday 11th November. Details will be sent out via email on Tuesday 24th September 2024 with a link to WSCCs’ ‘Have your say’ website Your Voice West Sussex , which will include details of in person events.

New 40mph limit along Tangmere Road now in place.

City Centre (N and E streets) replacement surfacing and public realm improvement scheme – Decision on allocation of funds (@£1/2m) for detailed design and enabling works, which is the necessary precursor to delivery project (current estimates @£5m for a safety only tarmac scheme, @£7½m for an enhanced scheme): Decision – Allocation of Funding – Preliminary and detailed design phase of Chichester City Centre (North/East streets) Public Realm Improvement SSED03(24/25) (moderngov.co.uk)   Funding  – @£4m WSCC Capital, balance from CIL and other partners. If Decision made by end Sept, expected early November for public engagement on detailed proposals. Follows on from Bognor Regis Esplanade Public Realm Improvements | Your Voice West Sussex ;

Westhampnett Road River Lavant embankment replacement/improvement and signalised pedestrian crossing improvement works on course for early October completion.

Shopwyke Lakes Longacres Way to Northern foot/cycle bridge path improvement works awaiting Cala Homes road space application to National Highways;
